Last night Scott and I got a chance to attend the Local Business Awards event and this was our very first time. In order to be the finalist I had to submit my application and get people to vote. To be honest awards is not really my thing however Kristy from Travel Moore who I'm in the Travel Agent Achievers group run by my super amazing Mentor Roslyn Ranse, did a presentation about the importance of applying for awards inspired me to do so.
This is purely for exposure, social proof and you just never know the connection you make and the potential clients for your business.
I didn't have any expectation and was just there to network with people. We had 2 café owners, real estate agent and hair dressers on our table which Scott ended up making the connection with the real estate agent as he's starting his own mortgage broker service.
We were the finalist under "Specialised Business" category and there were no other travel agents in the room so that was pretty cool. We didn't win but the most surprising thing for me was the fact that I didn't feel sad or disappointed at all 🤗
If I was at an event like this 7 years ago I would totally get upset and cry about it but overtime I have learnt my SELF WORTH and that I don't need anyone to tell me whether I'm WORTHY or not, especially from strangers.

The other key things I learnt from last night were that running your own business can be challenging but also rewarding as you get to do things your way and the most important thing was to TREAT YOUR STAFFS WELL.
This time last year I was literally operating my travel business alone. I was burnt out, made a big mistake with a booking which I lost a lot of money and grumpy all the time.
